During a Friday meeting in Beijing, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz urged Chinese President Xi Jinping to exert China’s influence on Russia against its war in Ukraine.

Xi, meanwhile, repeated a call for talks between Moscow and Kyiv and warned against the use of nuclear weapons.

“At present, the international situation is complex and changeable,” Xi was quoted as telling Scholz by Chinese state media. “As influential powers, China and Germany should work together in times of change and chaos to make more contributions to world peace and development.”
