First Lady Announces Children Of Wounded Vets Initiative

November 11, 2022

At a Veterans Day breakfast Friday morning First Lady Jill Biden was set to announce a new initiative to support children who live with wounded service members and veterans.

The Hidden Helpers Coalition was created to help young people who act as caregivers to those wounded in military service.

Dr. Jill Biden has long been an active supporter of military families. In 2011 as Second Lady, she and First Lady Michelle Obama came together to launch Joining Forces, an initiative supporting service members, veterans and their families through “wellness, education and employment opportunities.”

This is the first Veterans Day since President Biden signed the PACT Act, expanding health care for service members who were exposed to chemicals in burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Bidens’ son Beau died of cancer years after serving in Iraq.

With President Biden traveling overseas to attending the annual UN Climate Conference, the First Lady was set to be joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff at Arlington National Cemetery for Friday’s Veterans Day remembrance ceremonies.
