President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were set to visit the Children’s National Hospital in Washington on Friday to meet with pediatric patients, their families and staff.
It’s long been tradition for First Ladies to visit the hospital during the holidays, dating back to Bess Truman during the post-war years. However, this will be the second Christmas season trip to the hospital for President Biden—the first sitting President to do so.
The White House said the first couple would host a reading of the book, “The Snowy Day” with a group of patients, including some who would join virtually from their hospital rooms. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the book’s publication, authored by Ezra Jack Keats.
The Bidens are also expected to visit children and families in the cardiac unit, according to the White House.
