Trump’s Tax Returns Set For Release Friday

December 28, 2022

The House Ways and Means Committee is set to release former President Trump’s tax returns to the public on Friday, Congressional sources tell reporters.

The House is currently on holiday break ahead of the 118th Congress convening for the first time on January 3. However, on Friday the 42-member Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to meet for a pro forma session.

That session will begin around 9am Eastern Time. There will also be a formal announcement Friday from the committee.

Ways and Means last week released a report detailing six years’ worth of Trump’s tax returns, which included his four-year term as President. They revealed claims of massive annual losses that greatly reduced his tax burden. In 2020, his last year as President, he paid no income tax at all.

Trump’s full returns from 2015 to 2021 were not released alongside last week’s report because they contain sensitive information that had to be redacted before publication, according to committee members.

Trump, who announced in November that he’s running for reelection in 2024, had broken decades of protocol when he ran for President in 2016 by refusing to release his tax records. Except for Gerald Ford, who released a tax summary, every other President since Nixon has released his full tax returns to the public.

A Trump spokesman said last week that the release of his taxes was politically motivated.
