President Biden said the quiet part out loud Monday morning by admitting he plans on running for reelection.
During a segment on the TODAY Show on NBC at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, Biden told co-host Al Roker, “I plan on running, Al, but we’re not prepared to announce it yet.”
Biden has suggested previously that he plans to run for reelection in 2024. However, top White House advisers have reportedly not yet finalized decisions on launching the President’s campaign.
Former President Trump announced in November just after the midterm elections that he was running for reelection after he lost to Biden in 2020.
In a CNN poll last week, just one-third of Americans surveyed said Biden deserves to be reelected. His approval rating was underwater, with 42% approving of his performance in the White House and 57% disapproving. Several polls from February found Biden and Trump running about even in a hypothetical match-up.
However, those were taken months before Trump was indicted and arraigned on 34 counts of business fraud by a Manhattan grand jury. A new ABC/Ipsos poll has found that a majority of Americans—53%—believed Trump intentionally broke the law, compared to just 20% who said he did nothing wrong. That poll found Trump’s favorability rating to be at 25% versus Biden’s at 34%.
