Miami Mayor Francis Suarez Joins GOP Presidential Race

June 15, 2023

At this stage of the game, are there too many, not enough or about the right amount of GOP candidates running for president in 2024?

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez (R) announced Thursday that he’s running for President in 2024.

The 45-year-old filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Commotion on Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, he appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” where he announced his bid.

“My Dad taught me that you get to choose your battles, and I am choosing the biggest one of my life. I’m running for President,” Suarez said in a tweet that was accompanied by a video of him jogging through the streets of Miami.

“When I was elected, the city was broke and broken,” Suarez says in the video, “but we came together and I won my mayoral election with over 80% of the vote.”

He goes on to say that he “lowered taxes to an historic low, and our economy took off and our tax collections skyrocketed.”

“I’m going to run for your children and mine. Let’s give them the future they deserve,” he adds.

Suarez was last on the national stage just this Monday, when he held a news conference to ensure that Miami law enforcement was “ready” to handle any size crowds that might have turned out at former President Trump’s arraignment related to his handling of classified documents on Tuesday, though the crowds outside the federal courthouse ended up being relatively small as well as peaceful.

Suarez joins a large group of GOP contenders looking to unseat President Biden, including Trump, who announced he’s running for reelection back in November.

Other GOP contenders include former Vice President Pence, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgrum.

Including several business people and media personalities from outside the traditional political realm, at least 12 Republicans have so far joined the race for the GOP nomination as of this week.
