Qatar Prime Minister hopeful of breakthrough soon in hostage negotiations

October 25, 2023

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Wednesday that he’s hopeful for a breakthrough soon in hostage negotiations with Hamas.

“If we will be able to get along between the two parties, I think we will see some breakthrough hopefully soon,” Al Thani noted during a news conference with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan.

Al Thani added, “The negotiations are still ongoing.”

Despite the release of two Israeli women on Monday and two American women on Friday, thanks to negotiating efforts by officials from both Qatar and Egypt, more than 200 people, including dozens of kids, remain captive after Hamas abducted them amid its massive surprise attack on Israel on October 7.

“Qatar’s diplomatic efforts are crucial at this time,” Israeli National Security Adviser, Tzachi Hanegbi wrote on social media, adding that Qatar’s government has become “an essential party and stakeholder in the facilitation of humanitarian solutions.”
