Tim Scott suspends 2024 campaign for President

November 13, 2023

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) late Sunday evening suspended his campaign for President in the 2024 election, two months before the Republican party’s Iowa caucuses.

“Tonight, I suspended my campaign for president,” Scott wrote on social media. “Traveling this country and meeting all of you has been one of the most fantastic experiences of my entire life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. God Bless the United States of America.”

Scott tossed his hat in the GOP Presidential ring back in May, making him at the time the fifth Republican to run in the 2024 race, along with former President Trump, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek  Ramaswamy.

He’s the second major candidate to drop out after former Vice President Pence, who announced a run in June, suspended his campaign on October 28.

Scott’s announcement comes as Trump maintains a dominant polling lead among GOP Primary candidates. According to the 538 polling average, Trump, at 58.3% is leading his next closest contender Gov. Ron DeSantis (14%) by more than 44 points.
