With Tuesday night’s election results failing to secure for the GOP its anticipated “red wave,” some allies of former President Trump are now calling on him to delay his expected announcement to run for re-election.
The former Republican President was reportedly set to toss his had in the ring next week, either Monday or possibly Tuesday.
However, with control of both Houses of Congress still in question, and the Georgia Senate race between Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) and football star Herschel Walker (R) heading to a runoff, former Trump adviser Jason Miller said he’d be advising his former boss to move his announcement until after Georgians vote again in December.
“Georgia needs to be the focus of every Republican in the country right now,” added Miller, who spent Election Night with Trump at his Florida country club residence, Mar-a-Lago.
Some high-profile Trump-endorsed candidates did win their races, like author JD Vance who won his bid for Senate in Ohio, and Rep. Ted Budd who kept an open North Carolina Senate seat Republican.
However, there were other notable blows, like Trump’s endorsement of celebrity physician Dr. Mehmet Oz who lost his bid for Senate in Pennsylvania, as well as Trump-backed gubernatorial candidates who lost in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Maryland.
