Judge Sanctions Trump and Attorney Nearly $1 Million

January 20, 2023

A federal judge in Florida sanctioned former President Trump and one of his attorneys  $937,98 for filing a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and others in a case that “should never have been brought.”

U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks of Southern Florida that Trump and lead attorney Alina Habba, along with the firm of Habba Madaio & Associates, were jointly liable for the lawsuit filed this past March which claimed that during the 2016 Presidential campaign, Democratic candidate Clinton, the Democratic National Committee and others plotted a “malicious conspiracy” to investigate Trump’s campaign ties to Russia.

The suit further accuses Clinton and Democrats of rigging the 2016 election against Trump in her favor and “destroying his life.”

Other defendants named in the suit included Rep. Adam Schiff (R-CA) who was Chair of the House Intelligence Committee during Trump’s impeachments, former FBI Director James Comey, former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe and the former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele who helped circulate a dossier of lurid claims, many of them unsubstantiated, about Trump and Russia.

Middlebrooks’ order described Trump and his attorneys as having engaged in a “continuing pattern of misuse of the courts” and cited a series of lawsuits brought by Trump, including a defamation lawsuit brought against the Pulitzer board last month and repeated lawsuits against New York State Attorney General Letitia James.

James is suing Trump, his companies and its officers over allegations of bank, tax and insurance fraud.

Habba is the attorney representing Trump in the New York State fraud case as well as a lawsuit filed by writer E. Jean Carroll, who alleges that Trump raped her in the 1990s.

Habba has also reportedly offered advice in the federal investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents, including arguing he should hire someone to search his properties for any additional documents.

Trump announced in November that he is running for reelection in 2024.
