Trump Team Turns Over Another Classified Folder, Laptop

February 11, 2023

Former President Trump’s legal team recently turned over to the DOJ an additional folder with classified markings that they said they found at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, according to reports Friday evening.

A laptop belonging to a Trump aide was also reportedly turned over to authorities.

The revelation came just hours after a spokesperson for former Vice President Pence revealed that a Friday search of his Carmel, Indiana home had uncovered one additional document marked classified, roughly two and a half weeks after a lawyer for Pence discovered about a dozen documents marked classified at that residence.

That revelation came in the wake of discoveries of classified materials at President Biden’s  private office and residence. Biden voluntarily agreed to an FBI search of his home in Wilmington, Delaware, which uncovered six items in addition to the materials previously found  at the residence and his private office. A search earlier this month of Biden’s vacation house in Rehoboth Beach turned up no additional documents marked classified.

There have so far been no public reports of the FBI searching Trump’s additional properties beyond Mar-a-Lago—including Manhattan and Bedminster, New Jersey—after an August FBI search of his Florida country club residence uncovered hundreds of documents marked classified.

Trump was reported to have been haphazard in handling classified materials, and many of the documents found since he left office were in various areas of the Florida country club, including an underground storage area.

The discovery of more material marked classified at the homes of Trump and Pence followed reports Thursday that the former Vice President had been subpoenaed by Special Counsel Jack Smith, who’s been overseeing not just the investigation into the classified documents at Mar-a-Lago but Trump’s role in the deadly January 6, 2021 insurrection and attempt to overturn the 2020 Presidential election.

Court papers say the DOJ has been investigating Trump and his advisers for three potential crimes related to the classified documents: mishandling of national security secrets, obstruction and destruction of government records.

Attorney General Merrick Garland, who appointed Smith, has also appointed former U.S. Attorney Robert Hur Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.
