Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) has filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for President in 2024.
His filing puts Scott in a race for the Republican nomination that already includes former President Trump, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Florida Gov. Ron Desantis is also set to file paperwork and declare his bid to run for the Republican nomination in 2024 next week, according to multiple reports.
Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, launched a presidential exploratory committee in April that focused on his evangelical faith, his race and his experience growing up as the son of a single mother. He has stated that his approach to politics is guided by the belief that the U.S. is “the land of opportunity and not the land of oppression.”
On Thursday, Scott tweeted, “American families are starving for hope. We need to have faith. Faith in God, faith in each other, and faith in America.”
