Additional Aspects of Mar-a-Lago Search Warrant May be Unsealed

July 5, 2023

A U.S. Magistrate Judge’s filing Wednesday revealed that additional aspects of the search warrant on former President Trump’s country club residence, Mar-a-Lago, may be unsealed as soon as late next week.

“Multiple media organizations ask to unseal the affidavit in support of the search warrant for 1100 S. Ocean Boulevard, Palm Beach, Florida,” said Judge Bruce E. Reinhart’s filing with the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Florida.

It goes on to say, “In its Response, the Government agreed that some additional parts of the search warrant affidavit could now be unsealed; it argued that other parts of the affidavit should remain under seal to comply with grand jury secrecy rules and to protect investigative sources and methods.”

It goes on to say that the government has until July 13 at 5pm ET to file notice stating whether it tends to appeal the unsealing.

The Department of Justice’s search warrant led to a raid on August 8 by FBI agents on Trump’s Florida country club residence, Mar-a-Lago. According to DOJ’s indictment of Trump last month, agents found more than 100 documents marked classified during their search of the property. Boxes stored in places such as a ballroom, a bathroom, a shower, an office space, his bedroom and a storage room included classified information from such federal agencies as the CIA, Pentagon, NSA, and the National Reconnaissance Office, among others.

Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 criminal counts during an arraignment in federal court in Miami last month. The charges include 31 counts of willful retention of national defense secrets in violation of the Espionage Act, as well as counts of making false statements, conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, and a scheme to conceal.

News of further unsealing the search warrant comes after former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham on Saturday said she saw Trump show classified documents to people on a Mar-a-Lago patio.

“I watched him show documents to people at Mar-a-Lago on the dining room patio,” Grisham said on MSNBC. “So, he has no respect for classified information, never did.”

The office of Special Counsel Jack Smith has asked federal Judge Aileen Cannon of the Southern District of Florida for a December trial date in the case.
