Former Trump attorney John Eastman on Monday agreed to pay a $100,000 bond in the Georgia racketeering case surrounding efforts to overturn that state’s 2020 election.
Eastman, along with former President Trump, is among 19 co-defendants who were indicted by a grand jury related to attempts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election. Others include Trump allies Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, Kenneth Chesebro, Jeffrey Clark, Jenna Ellis, and Sydney Powell, as well as several Georgia officials including fake electors.
All 19 co-defendants face state racketeering charges.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has given each of the co-defendants until Friday to “voluntarily surrender” or face an arrest warrant. Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee signed off on Eastman’s agreement Monday morning, according to a court filing.
Under the terms of the order, Eastman “shall report to pre-trial supervision every 30 days,” and “shall perform no act to intimidate any person known to him or her to be a codefendant or witness in this case or to otherwise obstruct the administration of justice.”
The order also states that Eastman “shall not communicate in any way, directly or indirectly, about the facts of this case with any person known to him to be a codefendant in this case except through his or her counsel.”
The same judge signed off on a $10,000 bond agreement for co-defendant Scott Hall, an Atlanta-area bail bondsman, who’s charged with racketeering and six criminal conspiracy counts related to a scheme to access voting machines and data in rural Coffee County, Georgia.
Eastman attorney Harvey Silverglate said in a statement last week that the charges against the 19 co-defendants in the case “set out activity that is political, but not criminal” and that his client should not have been charged.
Along with the criminal indictment, Eastman is facing potential disbarment in California for what prosecutors in that state called baseless theory and made false claims of fraud by the attorney, who authored the failed fake electors plan to overturn the 2020 Presidential election in Trump’s favor.
