Former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows turned himself in on Thursday at the Fulton County Jail on charges related to to efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.
Both Meadows and former Department of Justice official Jeffrey Clark reached bond agreements Thursday with Fulton County prosecutors for $100,000 apiece.
Meadows and Clark are among 19 co-defendants, including former President Trump, who were indicted by a grand jury last week related to attempts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has given each of the co-defendants until Friday to “voluntarily surrender” or face an arrest warrant.
Earlier this month, Meadows undertook an effort to to move his case from Fulton County to federal court. On Saturday he filed to take his efforts one step further—requesting that charges against him be dismissed altogether.
Though U.S. District Judge Steve Jones scheduled the hearing to discuss Meadows’ request for Monday, he declined Meadows’ request to have his charges dismissed—as well as a similar request from Clark, meaning Willis’ warrant still stands, so Clark must turn himself in at the jail by noon Friday or face arrest.
On Thursday, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and election investigator Frances Watson were subpoenaed to testify at Meadows’ hearing.
Willis’ prosecution reportedly was sparked by Trump’s phone call to Raffensperger on January 2, 2021, during which the then-President pressured his fellow Republican, who recorded the call, saying, “I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have.”
All 19 co-defendants face racketeering charges.
Meadows also faces an additional charge of solicitation of violating an oath by a public officer, while Clark faces an additional charge of attempt to commit false statements and writing.
As of Thursday, Meadows is among at least ten of the co-defendants to have turned themselves in and had their mug shots taken.
Meadows’ mug shot was released shortly before 3:30pm ET Thursday.
Both Meadows and Clark are among at least 14 of the co-defenants who have so far agreed to a bond deal, the amounts of which range from $10,000 to the $200,000 to which Trump agreed.
On Monday, Trump agreed to the $200,000 bond deal. That evening the former President posted on social media that he’ll be turning himself in at the Fulton County jail on Thursday.
According to reports, the former President’s surrender to authorities was set to occur Thursday evening.
