A physical altercation broke out in a DC courtroom Monday, and Federal Agents were compelled to tackle a January 6 defendant to the ground.
Vitali GossJankowski has already been convicted of several charges related to the deadly January 6, 2021 attack upon the U.S. Capitol, but when U.S. District Court Judge Paul Friedman ordered GossJankowski jailed for a series of doxxing threats, the 34-year-old, who stands 6-foot-3, fought with agents as they tried to handcuff him, toppling the officers and careening into a nearby podium and tables.
Amid the scuffle agents from outside the courtroom ran in to help four U.S. Marshals and FBI staff subdue GossJankowski, who has a hearing disability.
The defendant was initially indicted in February 2021 on six counts, including attempting to obstruct, impede, and interfere with a law enforcement officer, to corruptly obstruct, influence, and impede an official proceeding (Congress in its duty to certify the 2020 Presidential election), and using a deadly weapon (taser).
GossJankowski was convicted on March 16 of this year.
On Monday following the scuffle, authorities removed him from the court and took him to the DC jail. His sentencing date hasn’t been set yet.
At least 1,125 people have been charged related to the deadly January 6 assault. A reported more than 500 of them have been sentenced.
Four people died during the insurrection, and five police officers died of various causes following the attack.
