Trump to be Deposed In Business Fraud Case

April 13, 2023

Former President Trump is scheduled to be deposed Thursday in New York State’s $250 million civil suit alleging business fraud.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James is suing Trump, his companies and its officers including three of Trump’s adult children over allegations of bank, tax and insurance fraud.

The lawsuit alleges that Trump made more than 200 instances of fraud over 10 years in efforts to inflate his personal net worth to attract favorable loan agreements.

James filed the suit last September, and it is scheduled to go to court October 2, though in March Trump attempted to file for a six-month delay that would have pushed the trial forward into the depths of the 2024 election season.

Trump’s deposition Thursday is part of the discovery process of the case. As of Thursday morning it was unclear whether he’d provide any answers or cite his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

Trump has called James’ case a political witch hunt. Last August during a deposition in James’ office, he pleaded the Fifth more than 400 times.

On April 4, Trump was arraigned in Manhattan criminal court on 34 counts of falsifying business records and conspiracy related to hush money payments made during the 2016 Presidential election.
