Former NYPD Commissioner Bernie Kerik meets with Special Counsel investigators

August 8, 2023

Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik met with special counsel prosecutors for roughly five hours on Monday amid the investigation into interference in the 2020 Presidential election.

The interview reportedly focused on former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani’s efforts to prove allegations of election fraud in seven states.

On August 1, Special Counsel Jack Smith indicted former President Trump on four criminal counts related to the 2020 election: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights. The final charge in the indictment focused on attempts to reverse results in six states with close elections in 2020: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

New Mexico was the other state in which Giulani attempted to prove election fraud. It’s not listed in the indictment.

Kerik’s meeting in the special counsel’s office was confirmed by his attorney, Tim Parlatore, who had revealed in July that he had handed over to prosecutors thousands of documents from Giuliani’s legal team, describing them as “approximately 600MB, mostly pdfs.”

Parlatore described the meeting with prosecutors as friendly and productive.

Kerik was police commissioner when Giuliani was mayor of New York City. The pair had teamed up to attempt to prove fraud in the 2020 election. However, state and federal judges dismissed dozens of lawsuits challenging the election outcome, and Congress certified the election results after every state had individually certified its own results—despite a deadly insurrection on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Giuliani, whom news outlets have identified as unindicted “Co-Conspirator 1” in Trump’s indictment, has recently denied any claims that he has “flipped” on Trump.

Kerik has not been identified as any of the six co-conspirators detailed in the indictment.
