Atlanta bail bondsman Scott Hall on Friday became the first co-defendant in the 2020 Georgia election interference case to plead guilty to the charges against him.
On August 22, Hall was also the first co-defendant to surrender at the Fulton County jail. He was released that day on $10,000 bond.
Hall, along with former President Trump, is one of a total of 19 co-defendants who were indicted last month on racketeering and other charges by a grand jury related to attempts to overturn Georgia’s election. The indictment came following a more than two-year investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
Hall was facing seven criminal counts, including racketeering, a count with which all 19 co-defendants have been charged. Hall is also accused of conspiring to unlawfully access voter data and ballot counting machines at the rural Coffee County election office in Georgia on January 7, 2021.
On Friday Hall pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor counts as part of a negotiated deal, and an attorney for Hall submitted a court filing waiving his indictment in the case.
Hall’s guilty plea comes the same day that Fulton County prosecutors signaled they may soon extend a plea deal to one or both co-defendants headed to trial on October 23—former Trump attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Sydney Powell—after they’d asked for a speedy trial.
A trial date has not yet been set for the remaining co-defendants.
A spokesperson for Willis’ office did not immediately respond to a reporter’s request for comment.
